Its the Gold Stupid

Sponsored Article

We live in a world today where gold does not reign supreme.  The US currency was floated back in the 1930’s and today we live or die based on our ability to produce as opposed to how much gold we have hidden away in a reserve somewhere.

Many people still bet their finances by investing in commodities of precious metals through the CBOT.  Gold prices have struck historic highs moving almost in tandem with oil prices.

For many people this is a bit esoteric and they turn to investing in precious metals such as gold coins through companies like our sponsor the Monex deposit company.  They provide artistically rendered gold coins.  These are not necessarily valued due to their weight in gold but sold at prices that are pegged according to their potential artistic or collectible value.

Its not a great way to invest your money, but for collectors or people knowledgeable in collecting coins you can make money if you buy low and sell high just like in any other market.

Politics and Miss Universe Pageant

As a sign of the times, Miss USA was booed by a Mexian audience at the Miss Universe pageant.  They weren’t booing because she was ugly, nor were they booing her speech about providing aid in South Africa.

They weren’t booing her individually.  They were booing the changing immigration policy of the United States.  Many Mexicans are increasingly becoming upset over changes in immigration policy which would call for greater enforcement at the Mexican - US border and might separate Mexican parents from their US born children if the Mexican parents were sent home and chose to leave their dual citizen children in the US.

From the war in Iraq to the fight against terror to immigration in Mexico, the US is increasingly seen as the very unpopular Bull loose in the bull pen and the Mexican audience wanted to take a couple stabs at the bull.

Germany Happy with new World Bank Nominee

President Bush has identified former deputy Secretary of State Robert Zoellick to lead the World Bank for the next 5 years and pick up the pieces after Wolfowitz’s tarnished future departure on June 30.

Zoellick was chosen not so much because his Republican ideology matches Bush’s, but mostly to appease other World Bank member countries like Germany.  Zoellick helped negotiate the reunification terms of Germany back in 1990 and today he works on Wall Street.

Presumably, he has both international diplomatic experience and financial experience unlike is predecessor.

I hate to say it but it almost seems like a smart choice from President Bush.  I think that is the first time I’ve ever used the words smart and President Bush in print without the word ‘not’ present.

Capella University v Non Secular Institutions

Sponsored Articles

Our sponsor Capella University offers online degree programs for students looking to either earn their first degree or refine their practical and technical knowledge through the convenience of an online program.  It would seem to me that the country would benefit from more public servants schooled in and by institutions that focus on tecnology and the use of technology as opposed to the Bush Administrations tendencies to hire staffers from non-secular or religious institutions.  This policy of hiring people with degrees from institutions with a religious affiliation is not historically problematic.  However, the conservative right as led by the late Jerry Falwell have made it a point of placing people in the government that have been schooled at their colleges and specifically in their political ideology.

Capella University has a much more academic focus as recent examples can attest.  Their recent press release about one of their faculty members that recently published a new book is a prime example.

Sara Orem, PHd, co-authored a book with Jacqueline Binkert, PhD, and Ann Clancy also a PhD.  The new book buy this collective of PhD’s is titled Appreciative Coaching: A Positive Process for Change.

In an ironic twist her book is about the concept that organizations can do very well when they motivate people by appealing to their ideals.  That sounds like something straight out of Falwell’s bag of tricks.  Lets hope that they continue to study the phenomena instead of attemping to brain wash their student body with the tools of the trade that they are studying.
