You may have noticed that Edwards campaign style and tactics are very different in this primary as compared to 2003/4. Back then he didn’t like to go negative or attack anyone. He had an image to set and create back then.
He was a nice guy. Working to make America better and you can’t make America better by attacking people.
Well, that was the theory anyway and as far as getting to the White House in 2004 is concerned it didn’t work. It did position Edwards nicely however for a second run this time around.
This time, Edwards is attacking, he is going negative, in a “Remember I’m positive, but need to make this negative comment,” kind of manner. Edwards is engaging in a style that will not position him well for a Vice Presidential nod. The reality is that running Edwards as VP has been tried and no one is going to try that option again.
Edwards may make it as a President, but he will not make it as a VP.
So Edwards has to go for broke as he campaigns for the Democratic primary. He can afford to go for broke and attack Hillary Clinton because he will not have any other plays to make if he doesn’t get the Democratic nomination. If he misses, he’ll be left at home watching the election on a widescreen tv powered up out of cabinet with a plasma tv lift, munching on too much food and putting on weight like Al Gore before he remembered that the environment was going to hell in a hand bag with a car idling inside.

This shift also shows a side of Edwards that was not visible in 2003/4. He can be a tough guy when he needs to be. It would have been unlikely for him to be a successful trial lawyer without this ability, but many people only saw the coom bay ah positive approach before and might have been doubtful about Edwards ability to duke it out when necessary.
Edwards is now showing that he is at least tough enough to take on a lady lawyer in a pant suit, maybe he needs to set his sites on Rudy Giuliani next.
Sorry targeting GW doesn’t cut it. Anyone can pick on that guy, its like bobbing for apples in a cereal bowl.
