Candidate Supporters Scams, Spams, and Lies

I received a spam email today that appeared to be from Mike Huckabee.  The Spammer probably didn’t realize how much I dislike Mike Huckabee and what he stands for.

Here’s the email - the links are turned off, if you want to visit the site feel free, but I wouldn’t click on anything while you are there for your own safety and protection.

Subject : A vote for Mike Huckabee - Is a Vote for the Second Amendment

Body:

Gov. Huckabee believes the Second Amendment is primarily about tyranny and self-defense, not hunting. The Founding Fathers wanted us to be able to defend ourselves from our own government, if need be, and from all threats to our lives and property.

He also believes that Second Amendment rights belong to individuals, not cities or states. He consistently opposed bann>ing assault weapons and opposed the Brady Bill .

Mike protected gun manufacturers from frivolous lawsuits and was the first Governor in the Country to have a concealed handgun license.

Unlike what you may have heard from The Media, A vote for Mike Huckabee is a vote for patriotism, not a vote for McCain; however, Mike needs your help if he is going to win. I encourage you to go to: https://www.mikehuckabee.com/?FuseAction=Contribute.Home&r =5522 <https://www.mikehuckabee.com/?FuseAction=Contribute.Home&r=5522>

And make a $5.00 donation to his campaign. He can only win if WE support him!

If you, like Mike , believe in the foundational right to bear arms, we encourage you to tell your friends about him. Tell your friends that the media does not elect the President; the people elect the President!

Imagine that a Presidential Candidate and former Governor not following the law of the Canned Spam Act!

Well as it turns out it was not sent by Mike Huckabee nor his campaign.

No surprise there.  I do not like the guy as a Presidential Candidate but would be surprised to see him breaking the law during the campaign.

The spam came from epaulg-4davisyihiy @ mac dot com - Now maybe that is actually their email address or maybe someone stole it from them.  Regardless the spam email is full of links to a pop up website powered by Google’s Blogger with a domain probably paid for through Google for $10.  The site is run by someone who claims to be a Huckabee Supporter and is soliciting donations to help Mike.

Yeah Right, I believe that!

Note. I run a political website here, but I do not ask for donations from anyone.  The site pays for itself with lite advertising.  The site’s advertising does not pay me compensation for my own work, that’s all volunteer, but it mostly covers the over head.

So Be Careful that email asking for a contribution might be a fraud, it might have valid looking links.  It might even be a legitimate site sometimes, but if they send you spam, its still against the law.

Where will all the Realtors Go - Politics

Wanted!

Lots of volunteers with a geo targeted knowledge of their communities, lots of connections in the community, the ability to communicate and drive an SUV with signs on the doors.

As the real estate mortgage industry goes through fits, this guy be a segment of the population that is going to be hurting for work.  I’m talking about the realtors.  With interest rates going up and credit tightening they’re going to be fewer houses to sell and fewer people it can buy them and that means less work for realtors.

Fortunately for every realtor across the country might be positioned well economically speaking.  We’re only about eight months into what is going to be the longest political cycle for an election that anyone is ever seen.  The political campaigns are going to bring in record amounts of cash and they’re going to need an effective place to spend.  They might just turn to realtors as sources of grass-roots troops that can help get the message out and possibly even more important load people in their cars and get people to the polls to vote.

Realtors already have the SUVs and their experience to driving people around town.  Hell they might’ve even sold a house that persons living in and they might know if the person lost their car trying to make a payment on that house.  So they can spend $100 and fill up their SUV with gas and charge it to a politico and get those people to the polls to get the vote out.

I’m not saying it’s useful or functional and I’m not saying it’s going to world a better place but it is a prime example of trickle down political economics mixed with a little bit of opportunistic advertising.

Politics and Search Engine Marketing

Politicians and their campaigns are still learning how to utilize search engine marketing techniques to get the message out about their candidates.  Our new sponsor Apogee provides search engine marketing consulting services for anyone that looks to market on the Internet.

They offer best in class services and even a Search Engine Marketing Glossary to help get you started in understanding what it is you’re getting into when you start to market online through the search engine’s.  Keep in mind were not talking about just stirring up a banner page, were talking about a person doing a search on Google or some other search engine and finding your message or article at the top of that list, that is the goal of search engine marketing and that is what Apogee can help their customers achieve.

Political candidates are just learning how to utilize this area of marketing.  Howard Dean had some success when he chose to collaborate with bloggers during his presidential campaign.  Since then to local candidates have taken a couple steps backwards as they work to control the message to their own blogs as opposed to reaching out to the blogosphere.  They will learn over time, the working with best in class search engine marketing companies might help them take a step forward.  They are also a Search Engine Optimization Company ( SEO Company ), which means they can help to insure that a political candidates website is built in a way that enables the biggest search engine bang for the buck.

Presidential Candidates Slow to Pick up on Web 2.0 Buzz Marketing - Industry Continues to Launch Fast

Politics has been changing rapidly over the last decade when it comes to the internet.  Politicians started to realize just how much online advertising could impact an election but that all changed substantially with Howard Dean.

He showed that the web could rapidly pull together a grass roots foundation that was very vocal and very likely to contribute money to an election!

Since then he has become the President of the Democratic Party and all politicians have been working to benchmark off of his lessons learned several years ago.

No one is breaking much ground in Web 2.0 Marketing!

Politicians have been dabbling in social media sites like YouTube and MySpace.  It is helping, especially when it comes to attack ads.  However, no one has learned how to utilize the concept of Buzz Marketing in Web 2.0.

For just over a year now an new industry has found its way on to the internet.  Its an industry of web marketers that have learned how to get their message across to people performing Google Searches.  After all when people ask a question online, they usually do a Google search.

If you don’t get your message into the top 10 of Google, its like not getting any press at all.  Politicians are only just starting to touch base with the new trends in advertising that that can enable them to get their message out to the masses and help guide the debate on any given topic.

PayPerPost is a Web 2.0 Marketing company that has made some of the most progress in this industry.  They were not the first in the industry to start offering Web 2.0 Marketing Services, but financially they have grown the fastest and gained the most clout.

They have just recently secured their second round of venture capital financing in 10 months.  In August of 2006 they secured $3m and now they have secured a second round of financing for $7 million.

They have also increased their advertiser numbers up to 6,500 total advertisers.

More importantly they claim to be responsible for 125,000 of the blog articles in the blogosphere!  Through their pipelines and the pipelines of Web 2.0 marketing,

Its possible for a political candidate to get their message in front of 10 million eyeballs per week for $50,000!

A politician can get a lot of bang for the buck and this bang can be long term bang.  This message can be short term, blast out for just that week, but as messages on the internet can conceivable last forever, they can begin to own the Google top 10 real estate on the topic relating to that message as well.

Now if you have a message to get out and want to take advantage of this new industry there are several ways to go about it.  You can connect with PayPerPost and advertise on blogs relatively easily.

I have been working in this industry myself for just over a year now and it grows and changes almost weekly, but the reality is that it is extremely effective, especially at delivering a message.  I suspect that the politicians and the political groups that learn how to capitalize on this industry will have a distinct advantage in 2008.

I can promise you that NoMoreIncumbents will be taking advantage of  . . .  this advantage!
