Bloomberg and CNN are both reporting that Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts has been sent to the hospital following a fall on a fishing dock. He apparently fell after suffering from some type of seizure.
Roberts suffered a seizure in 2003 while golfing with friends (CNN is reporting 1993 and Wolf Blitzer just said that he suffered the seizure after being hit in the head. I suspect that CNN has their facts wrong on both counts.) and the cause of that seizure was never identified. He also received injuries resulting from the fall.
Chief Justice Roberts is 52 years old. Roberts was sworn in to his post in September of 2005. He was confirmed by the senate with a vote of 78-22 in favor.
The Supreme Court has issued a statement saying that its a benign idiomatic seizure, which means they do not know the reason for the seizure.
The chief justice was on vacation in Maine, which is kind of like the Outer Banks of the North East.
