No More Incumbents Blog

If you have missed the political blog, Who Hijacked Our Country, no is your chance to read a great article (with some biting and slightly foul language) talking about how Republicans are currently in a civil war with each other.  The Republican base is fractured and the religious right is taking shots from all sides.

I have written about this in the past, especially talking about how Bush has paid lip service to the Religious Right, while single handedly proving that all of their principles when executed by a Moron achieve results that only a true devil could love.

How Christian of Them

This article talks about how the same fine people that trashed Senator John Kerry’s War Hero status with $4 million are now attacking Mike Huckabee for Mitt Romney.  So instead of Republicans attacking Democrats, Republicans are attacking Republicans.  What’s funnier is that Christian Conservative Republicans are attacking Christian Conservative Republicans with a flat garden hose.

OK, its not really a flat garden hose, but the attack is landing with a flat thud.

Its the oldest game in the capital.  When a politician has ’served’ their constituents long enough they cash in after the fact by going to work as a lobbyist, exercising their insider knowledge and connections.

Senator Trent Lott, who dodged a political bullet a few years ago joking about how US society would have been better with a Segregationist President, is leaving the Senate. 

He’s not leaving due to scandal, he’s leaving just before the end of the year so that he can dodge new rules that would have forced him to weight 2 years to rake in the money as a lobbyist.

It would seem that every politician that starts wanting to protect their checking account in a serious fashion for themselves and their family, eventually takes either this route or if they have an urge to remain in the spot light, they become a media talking head.

A few like Ted Kennedy with stories to tell might even sell a book deal for millions of dollars even thought they will never tell where the bodies are really buried.

Now, I doubt that Trent Lott will opt for a free checking account from WaMu as his finances are bound to be much too complicated for that type of facility.  The type of money that Trent will be purveying in his new role will probably never touch his own checking account that is for sure. 

Personally, I’m torn. I can’t figure out if I am happy to see this long term incumbent leave the Senate or sad to see him go join the forces of those that will corrupt the future senators that will replace him.
