Have you noticed that many of the talking heads on television these days are sitting at a high top bar type of news desk or countertop or table. There seems to be a new trend in entertainment as well as possibly in working situations. More people are trying to either become engaged or appear to be engaged by elevating their position.
I don’t mean that they’re trying to elevate their position in the company are in the government there are literally trying to elevate their position physically. The former Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld used to work standing up in a bar in his office or a high table that is. He didn’t use a traditional desk he stood up on his feet all day long working at a computer or at that table shuffling paperwork.
The concept is moved into journalism as well. Many news anchors now sit at either a halfway elevated table or a fully elevated table replete with barstools essentially that they sit on all day long. This barstool arrangement hasn’t exactly filtered all the way down to the morning news where most morning shows still recline in something like a love seat or couch for some other extra comfy and cushioned chair.
I’m sure that someone somewhere has done some polling and come to the conclusion that people pay attention more if the person they’re watching on TV is higher up in elevation.
Now I will admit when I’m at home working I sometimes sit at the island in our kitchen with my laptop which is about 3 1/2 feet off the ground. Sometimes I’m sitting at a medium-sized barstool and sometimes I stand up. I do like working in that sort of environment on occasion but I don’t like to do it all the time.
but maybe there is something to this phenomenon may be it’s not just all polls and hype, maybe as a nation we need to move everybody on to their feet and get everyone standing. Maybe this will increase productivity and help people make better decisions. Maybe I need to pick up some more Studio RTA Furniture and reequip my home office.
or maybe I just need to look out for the future throw sailed all the networks will be adding another two to three years when they find the next new trend that greater sets with!
