New Jersey Gubernatorial Primary Elections

Current Governor Jon Corzine’s approval ratings are dropping.  Currently, 46 percent of New Jersey State residents disapprove of the job the Governor is doing, while 40% approve.  Corzine will face a tough election in November, IF he is successful in winning the Primary Election in June.  Here are the current candidates for Governor and their websites:

Democrats

Republicans

Chris Christie Announces Intention to Run for Governor

Former New Jersey Attorney General Christopher J. Christie has decided to run for Governor of New Jersey on the Republican ticket.  As Attorney General, Christie has sent a number of New Jersey politicians to jail for corruption.

Christie emailed supporters stating: “I did not take this step lightly.  It was only after careful consideration and consultation with my family that I decided to become a candidate.

“New Jersey is broken. New Jersey’s taxes have become so unaffordable that more families are leaving our state than moving here. Our state’s business-tax climate is ranked 50th in the nation and has become so unattractive to employers that only government jobs are growing in New Jersey. Yet nothing in Trenton gets done to fix these problems.

“We can change this.  We can solve these problems if we’re willing to make the tough decisions.”

A recently released poll showed that 65% of New Jersey voters believe New Jersey is on the wrong track, but 45% still think current New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine is doing a good job (how this is possible, I do not know).  The poll also showed that Corzine would beat Christie in November by 40-33.  Even with all the negative news in New Jersey, voters are still willing to vote in a Governor that they complain about.  Sad.

Book Review - The Soprano State

If you are at all interested in New Jersey politics, you need to read the book by Bob Ingle and Sandy McClure The Soprano State: New Jersey’s Culture of Corruption.  Ingle and McClure do a great job of summarizing the numerous corruption and ethic violations of New Jersey politicians.  Both the Democratic and Republican parties are involved in numerous scandals, reinforcing the idea that incumbent politicians must go.

But, I think it goes even further than that in New Jersey.  Since both parties are so “caught up” in corruption, New Jersey would benefit from a strong third party.  The trick?  Getting people to vote for candidates in that party.  Is it possible?  Yes, but it would take an awful lot of work.

“This book is a page-turner. You start out laughing and end up pounding the table for reform.”—Tom Curley, CEO, The Associated Press

“Far and away, the best nonfiction I’ve read in years! I feared it might only be of interest to those who live in New Jersey. Boy, was I wrong. Ingle and McClure are remarkable reporters who’ll keep you spellbound.”—Cissie Cooper, San Francisco

Hillary Picks up New Jersey also

Hillary seems on her way to pick up many of the big states in the Northeast as she picks up New Jersey.  The real vote count however will boil down to a delegate count that will go late into the night and might play out over several days even.

There are 170 delegates at stake in that count.
